When Ben and Soo asked if I would shoot their wedding I was over the moon! It was going to be in Plymouth around the time I was going to be holidaying in Cornwall, perfect for me to get to and shoot whilst being away in my home county!
However……plans changed not only for Ben and Soo but also for me and my family! We were all going to be in London at that time instead – perfect all round!
The day started for me at what I can only describe as my ‘London dream house’ as Soo got ready with her family and friends in a gorgeous Victoria town house, which they’d found on Air BnB….Such a good idea!
I felt right at home amongst the buzz of the morning preparation and everyone seemed so relaxed, with no stress or fuss.
I met Ben and the boys at The Brewbird Café en route to Southwark Registry Office where we waited for Soo to arrive in her little red VW Polo. The ceremony went by so fast but the emotions in the room were so powerful I had to work hard to stop myself from blubbing, however I soon snapped out of it at the sound of Ben stumbling on the ‘Lawful Wedded Wife’ part, and then we couldn’t stop laughing!
The Brewbird café is the most unlikely place for a wedding reception, however once you step into that courtyard; you’d never think you were in Peckham, let alone London or England even! It felt like it could have been a Spanish villa or somewhere in the hills of Mallorca with the paper decorations and fairy lights hung above our heads and the tables laid out with an archway at the top ready to host a Chinese Tea Ceremony. This was a wonderful tradition Soo and Ben incorporated into the day in order to welcome the joining of both families and for both sets of parents to show acceptance to the newly weds.
From here on in – the day fell into party mode with food, sweets, dancing and a serious amount of drinking.
The light was perfect and the sunset threw some beautiful colours and soft warm fuzzy feelings all around. It was the perfect wedding for Ben and Soo and I’m so honoured I got to be a part of it and witness a beautiful couple tie the knot.
