Bryony & Mikes Vintage London Wedding

More pictures in the gallery below but if you want to read how the day went then here it is!

Last year, before Christmas, I was approached by Bryony and Mike to photograph their wedding.  To say I was excited about this is an understatement to say the least! (These guys probably don’t know yet but they inspired me to create ‘Kooky Weddings’!).  Knowing what they were after in terms of shots and style was exactly the kind of thing I wanted to do, all vintagey and hand made and all very personal and full of love and music. This is my bag baby!

So the Big Day! Bryony got ready at The Rose and Crown pub where she’d been staying the night before with her family and bridesmaids. What fabulous rooms for ‘above a pub’!! Byrony’s lovely mum greeted me at the door and showed me in to a room full of fun and excitement for me to do the ‘getting ready’ shots – I do love this part! – watching the transformation! Seeing the look on Dads face when he see’s how beautiful his daughter looks in her dress for the first time! It’s where all the magic begins. Bryony wore, dress by Candy Anthony and shoes by Benjamin Adams, Bryony and her bridesmaids carried bouquets of blue hydrangeas, white roses, hyacinths and freesias from Covent Garden Flower Market. Mikes suit was by Adam Waite and he wore Loakes brogues.

Meanwhile, about 2 minutes walk from the pub, Mike the groom with his usher and best man were getting ready at home. I’ve never done ‘getting ready shots’ at  home, (its usually a hotel or the brides mums place) and this was really nice to do, to get some of Bryony and Mikes personality in the picture, things around the house, pictures on the wall, HP sauce on the table! The house they live in together, this is what tells THEIR story!

Boys getting ready are so different to girls getting ready, needless to say I think I came in a bit handy for the best man when I helped him fold his hanky properly for his jacket pocket!

A quick dash back to the Pub to make sure I didn’t miss Bryony getting into her dress, then over to Stoke Newington Town Hall for the ceremony itself. Inside it is an incredible building with amazing mahogany walls with touches of orange curtains and red carpet which made me feel like I was in the 1970’s!

A few shots of guests arriving as the groom awaited his gorgeous wife to be.

During the ceremony I try not to take too many shots, but at the same time I try to capture the best moments without distracting them from their vows to each other. It’s always so moving to watch the emotions on the mother of the brides face change from laughter to tears in a matter of seconds.

The ceremony is over in a flash (see what I did!) and we’re outside for the confetti and the group shots.

The guests head back to the pub while I go for a walk with the new Mr & Mrs to the park to re-live their youth on the swings!

Another favourite part of the day for me to really have some fun.

The rest of the day goes by in a haze of drinks, dinner and speeches at a gorgeous restaurant called Homa on Stoke Newington High St, followed by evening guests arriving at the village hall next door.

I knew Bryony, Mike and their families had pulled out all the stops in decorating the hall with all things vintage, quirky, original and fun, but I can honestly say I’ve never been so impressed with the amount of thought and personality put into making this room so breath taking.

Hand made bunting, family photo’s, so many cakes and treats, a fancy dress box, a photobooth, a crate of flip flops for dancing feet plus massive round balloons and the centre pieces were huge big letters B & M with the word Love all in lights! Of course the DJ in the corner and the bar at the back, all made for a quirky romantic atmosphere.

I said I’d stay until the first dance (There is a light that never goes out. Morrissey)  – Genius first dance song! However….when the time came for me to pack the camera away, I took a look around the room and decided the day wasn’t over yet! One more round of the room for some last minute action before it got messy and then it was time for me to go.

All in all, a perfect day! Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Corf! You guys Rock!!
